Andreas Lundberg
September 22, 2020
The COVID-19 restrictions have certainly altered the balance of power in the housing rental market – particularly in Sydney and Melbourne. Are you a bull or a bear? Part 2: Reasons to be bullish
Roger Montgomery
September 2, 2020
In my last blog, I set out the reasons for being pessimistic about equity markets. Now let’s look at the reasons to be bullish. I’ll let you decide which case is more compelling, and I’d love to get your comments. With many of the bear arguments centred around a bubble in technology stocks, it’s worth beginning the bull case with those same technology stocks. Continue…

What if we get a vaccine but people refuse to be jabbed?
Roger Montgomery
August 19, 2020
Global share markets are being held aloft partly by the hope of a coronavirus vaccine coming sometime soon. But new research shows many people – including around 50 per cent of Americans – could refuse to get a jab. If that happens, then is it possible that what we are now living through will be the new normal? Continue…

What does fewer migrants mean for property?
Andreas Lundberg
July 27, 2020
The latest economic update from the Federal Treasurer includes an assumption that net overseas migration will plummet as a result of COVID-19 related travel restrictions. Given that overseas migration is a major driver of property prices and construction activity, this will put a dampener on prices and have a major impact on employment. Continue…

Roger Montgomery
June 11, 2020
The 11-year bull market in global equities, which COVID-19 finally brought to an end, came to be derided as the most unloved bull market in history. So, what to make of the strong, and similarly disparaged, bounce since March? Many investors look to be pricing in better times ahead, but media headlines are telling a different story. Continue…

Why the HomeBuilder program is terrible public policy
Andreas Lundberg
June 11, 2020
During the GFC, the Federal Government rolled out ‘Building the Education Revolution’ to stimulate the construction sector. Are we about to see the end of the CBD?
Andreas Lundberg
June 1, 2020
I remember some years back hearing a ‘futurist’ predict that high-rise office buildings could end up being like the pyramids of Egypt – large relics for future generations to ponder. The COVID-19 work-from-home restrictions have made this prediction worth considering. Investors now need to ask: is there trouble ahead for real estate investment trusts (REITs) with big office portfolios? Continue…
