Stuart Jackson
August 10, 2015
Following on from ANZ’s trading update last week, NAB reported its June quarter trading update today. NAB reported 9 per cent growth in cash earnings for the quarter to A$1.75 billion. This appeared to comfortably beat ANZ’s cash earnings growth of 4 per cent for the same quarter. However, there were a number of notable quality differences in the period. Continue…

Iron Ore’s Train Wreck
Roger Montgomery
August 5, 2015
When Iron Ore was trading above $120 we challenged the iron ore industry’s view that the commodity price would remain supported. Indeed in this post back in 2012 we noted; “FMG’s Nev Power reckons while iron ore prices have slumped to $US104 a tonne in recent days, “as soon as restocking and production returns to normal we expect to see prices back in the $US120 to $US150 per tonne range”.

July 29, 2015
There’s no doubt that REA Group Limited (ASX: REA) has been an excellent performer in terms of share price over the past decade, it’s up over 2,600 per cent. Australia’s demand for data is off the charts!
Scott Shuttleworth
June 24, 2015
As we have previously noted, the demand for data in Australia (and the world) is growing at an exponential rate and the statistics are staggering. IBM notes here that “Every day, we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data — so much that 90% of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years alone.”

The soft stuff is the hard stuff
David Buckland
June 23, 2015
The former great supermarket, petrol, liquor and hardware group Woolworths Limited (ASX: WOW) is paying McKinsey $45 million for management advice. After reading an interview in the Weekend Australian with Paul Simons, who ran Woolies for an extraordinarily successful two decades until 1994, I think Ralph Waters and the Woolies Board will soon come to the realisation “the soft stuff is the hard stuff”.
