  • Boom or bubble? Navigating today’s soaring stock market

    Roger Montgomery
    August 1, 2025

In this week’s video insight, I explore whether we’re in the midst of a genuine market boom – or drifting into bubble territory. While strong earnings, high margins, and a pause in rate hikes have fuelled the rally, valuations are stretching well beyond historical norms. Continue…

    Roger Montgomery
    July 31, 2025

I joined Phil Clark on ABC Nightlife to explore why markets are rallying despite wars, tariffs, and economic uncertainty. I explained how abundant liquidity is fuelling speculation – from meme stocks to cryptocurrency – and shared why investors should tread carefully. Continue…

ABC The World Today – is liquidity fuelling the meme stock frenzy?

    Roger Montgomery
    July 30, 2025

I joined David Taylor on ABC’s The World Today to discuss the growing wave of speculative euphoria sweeping global financial markets. From meme stocks and cryptocurrencies to gold and penny stocks, investors are chasing high returns. Could this just be a reflection of greater liquidity? Continue…

    Bubble, bubble, toil & trouble

    Roger Montgomery
    July 30, 2025

With apologies to William Shakespeare, signs of a bit of froth and frenzy have begun to be acknowledged in markets this last week. As we have previously noted, liquidity is the fuel for such episodes, and as long as liquidity remains abundant, we should expect more, rather than less, evidence of irrationality. Continue…

    Roger Montgomery
    July 29, 2025

In this interview with ABC News, we unpack the liquidity-fuelled rally sweeping global markets – from the resurgence of meme stocks and crypto to China’s massive $10 trillion stimulus. We also explore what’s next, as Trump’s tariffs are set to be finalised by Friday and speculation builds around a potential Fed rate cut. No light for Australia’s poor productivity record

    David Buckland
    July 29, 2025

The Whyalla Steelworks was established in 1941 and employs 1,100 people. The Mount Isa copper smelter was established in 1953 and employs 550 people, and the Townsville refinery was established in 1959 and employs 500 people. Without enormous government subsidisation, all three businesses look like they will follow the Exxon Mobile refinery, Oceana Glass and plastics makers, Qenos and Trident, into oblivion. Continue…

    Roger Montgomery
    July 28, 2025

In this video, Fraser Heard, Head of Partners Private, shares his perspective on the growing role of private credit within client portfolios. He outlines why private credit is emerging as a core asset class in Australia, particularly as investors seek income and diversification away from traditional sources. Fraser discusses how Partners Private evaluates private credit opportunities, with a strong focus on manager quality, transparency, risk discipline, and the structural benefits the asset class can offer. Bruised Blue Chips – finding fortune in the fall

    Roger Montgomery
    July 25, 2025

At one point, back in 2022, the market cap of U.S. technology giant Meta (formerly Facebook) dropped as low as US$230 billion. The company and its investors had lost US$800 billion in market capitalisation in just one year, and the shares were down 75 per cent from their previous all-time high.

While the detailed reasons for the company’s significant decline are debatable – the broader market and its peers also fell significantly – the official reasons seem to be that the company experienced slowing growth in its daily active users and rising competition from TikTok.
