APRA released December quarter data on the health insurance industry last month. This shows that private health insurance penetration fell for the first time in 10 years. While the percentage of Australian residents that had private hospital insurance only fell 0.1 per cent to 47.2 per cent, this will be of great concern to the Government given that falling coverage rates inevitably sees the healthcare burden fall back onto the public system. continue…

I want to talk about Donald Trump. We marvel that such extreme views and statements can receive acceptance in the US but the reason we have this view is because our media follows the US east and west coast media, which caters to the upper middle class who know very little of the values, fears and aspirations of the hard working and less privileged majority of the USA. Last week The Australian reported St John of God plans to introduce a co-payment of up to $50 for pathology services in response to the Government’s proposed rebate cut. In attempting to reduce the rate of reimbursement by $1.40 to $3.40 per test, the Government may have inadvertently given the industry power to set prices, and at a much higher level. continue…

Chinese cement producers, declining capacity utilisation, and the fight for survival
