  • WES commits to the health, wellbeing and beauty sector

    David Buckland
    September 17, 2021

It took the CEO, Rob “they’re not browsing” Scott, a little over nine weeks to arrive at the conclusion that if Wesfarmers (ASX:WES) are serious about using Australian Pharmaceutical Industries (ASX:API) as a springboard to enter the growing health, wellbeing and beauty sector, then its logical to increase the acquisition price. • Montgomery launches Global Small and Mid Cap Fund with Polen Capital

    Roger Montgomery
    September 15, 2021

One of the most exciting parts of the market is the small and mid-cap space, where you can find companies that have grown their average annual earnings per share by a sustained 20 per cent. In the cases where these companies can also internally fund their growth, strong long-term investment returns typically follow. Continue…

    Roger Montgomery
    September 14, 2021

Roger joined Philip Muscatello on Shares for Beginners Weekend Watchlist to discuss Macquarie Telecom (ASX:MAQ) which is part of a global megatrend – data centres and the cloud. Global research and advisory firm Gartner estimates in 2022 there will be an estimated $1.3 trillion in IT spend that will be affected by the shift to the cloud and this figure is expected to grow in the low double digits for years to come. • Are we likely to see a correction or crash from the COVID-19 situation?

    Roger Montgomery
    September 13, 2021

Crashes tend to occur when investors are surprised by something. The unexpected or the ‘black swan’ event is what triggers fear and financial protectionism among investors. There are several reasons why I believe investors can be optimistic about the market over the next year or so, notwithstanding a temporary pull-back of 10-15 per cent is always possible and should be considered a normal part of every investors journey. • Three reasons why I am still bullish on this market

    Roger Montgomery
    September 10, 2021

Over the past 12 months, the All Ordinaries index and the S&P 500 have risen around 26 and 35 per cent, respectively.  Not bad when you consider the economic ravages of the COVID-19 lockdowns. But despite these strong performances, there are three good reasons to believe sharemarkets will continue to climb over the coming year. Continue…

  • Despite declining efficacy, vaccines are our only way back to normal life

    Andreas Lundberg
    September 9, 2021

I have been reading the media reports noting the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines declines over time.  Thankfully, even with reduced efficacy, vaccines provide protection from serious disease, and a booster shot will increase efficacy. A high vaccination coverage provides the impetus for politicians to safely re-open our societies.  And that will be a shot in the arm for many Australian businesses. Continue…

  • What we learned from reporting season

    Joseph Kim
    September 8, 2021

Another reporting season has come and gone.  In all, 345 ASX listed businesses reported their FY21 results, which kept market analysts busy assessing the ‘beats’ and ‘misses’, earnings revisions, macro trends and warning signals.  Here are the chief take-outs from the analysts at investment banks Macquarie and JP Morgan.
