Is it time to reconsider investing in an ASX 200 ETF?
Roger Montgomery
October 26, 2023
In this week’s video insight, I explore why the Australian S&P/ASX 200 index has shown no capital growth in the last 16 years. Australia’s taxation system is a unique creature. It heavily incentivises dividends mainly through the mechanism of franking credits. But is it time to reconsider some of your investments? continue…

Paul Tudor Jones another bearish investor publicises their concerns
Roger Montgomery
October 25, 2023
A conga-line of commentators have spoken out about the risks associated with equity markets right now. Many of the dangers cited are, however, already well known and, in some cases, have been in existence for years if not decades. Relying on these conditions to inspire a market sell-off is tantamount to predicting when other investors will also start to worry about them. Given they are already in existence and well known, guessing when, and if, sentiment will shift and broadly agree with the commentators highlighting the issue is prone to error. continue…

Roger Montgomery

David Buckland
October 18, 2023
In this week’s video insight, I’ll be discussing the pleasing performance of both the Montgomery Small Companies Fund and the Aura High Yield SME Fund (for wholesale investors) in the September 2023 quarter. During this time stock markets observed widespread negative returns, mainly due to a significant increase in U.S. ten-year treasury bond yields. continue…

Ausbiz – Challenging the prediction of a grim decade for equities
Roger Montgomery
October 17, 2023
In this interview with Ausbiz, I wanted to share a different perspective on the future of investments. I challenged the widespread concerns about the S&P 500 indicating a potentially bleak decade ahead. I also wanted to emphasize that individual investors should move beyond broad indices and instead focus on quality businesses. Roger Montgomery
October 16, 2023
Some commentators, pointing to the price to earnings (P/E) ratio for major indices like the S&P500, argue the next decade will be terrible for equities. Are they right? There are always plenty of people happy to offer their opinion. continue…

Will Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers dominate the “affordable market”?
David Buckland
October 11, 2023
There is a well-known Harvard Business School case study where the Japanese automakers tried to enter the U.S. market in the late-1960s and kept returning home with their tail between their legs as their early vehicles were not designed for big distances on the open American road. Fast forward 50 years and Toyota consistently has one of the largest market shares in the U.S., and not so long-ago Lexus was much preferred over other luxury brands including BMW and Mercedes. continue…

David Buckland
October 9, 2023
The recent removal of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, seems to coincide with the outlook of an unsustainable budget deficit and the likelihood the U.S. Federal Debt to GDP ratio will soon exceed the record reached in 1946, immediately after the second World War. continue…
