Central Banks just can’t control the weather
David Buckland
June 3, 2024
Australia’s annual inflation rate edged up to 3.6 per cent in April, and this included food price inflation of 3.8 per cent. And according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, energy and food represents 7 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively, of the U.S. consumer price index (CPI), whilst commodities represent close to 36 per cent. That said, central banks in setting monetary policy, generally place less emphasis on the price changes of these more volatile inputs. Continue…

Brett Craig
May 29, 2024
Last week the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) released the minutes from their most recent monetary policy meeting, held earlier this month. The decision to keep the cash rate was made because there had not been sufficient data to warrant a change at this stage. Given that inflation is continuing to trend down, towards the top of the target range, and the path has not altered course, there was no argument against the decision made this month. How much better off are you in a private credit fund versus an investment property?
Roger Montgomery
May 24, 2024
I recently met with a dear friend who was celebrating the full repayment of his mortgage. Putting aside the fact most people might think that’s an unusual milestone to celebrate, he used the gathering to discuss what investments he could fund by borrowing against his house.
