How long will the recent outperformance of the banks last?
Stuart Jackson
January 21, 2021
In this week’s video insight Stuart discusses how the banks are positioned with a less economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic than first anticipated. Since the pre-COVID market high on 20 February 2020, the banks have generated a loss of 7 per cent compared to a loss of 3 per cent of the broader market over the same period, despite share prices outperforming in recent months. The Price to Earnings multiple of the banks have been falling for some time as a result of margin compression and higher capital requirements reducing their return generated on incremental equity invested. Will we see any special dividends from the banks as bad debt loan provisions are unwound?

Welcome to 2021. Play what is in front of you.
David Buckland
January 12, 2021
In this week’s video insight David identifies why as investors we can only play what is in front of us. In reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, Central Banks have been printing money so Governments – which are running substantial deficits – can pay for financial assets, welfare programs, infrastructure and salaries for public servants. Productivity reform is largely ignored, and together with ageing demographics and indebtedness, there is a handbrake to future economic growth. So, for 2021, what is in front of us?

Roger Montgomery’s Christmas Message 2020
Roger Montgomery
December 18, 2020
This Christmas I’d like to reflect on Community and Individualism. This year, I believe we have seen demonstrated, comprehensively, the failure of a society to deal with a crisis because the rights of the individual usurp the needs of the community. We want to be known for our individual accomplishments, for our abilities and at the extreme end of individualistic fame as highlighted by so much of social media – we simply want to be known for being known. Instead, we should be known for caring for others, for helping and for rescuing those in need. For putting others first and above ourselves.

A retail stock benefiting from the reopening of economies
Stuart Jackson
December 9, 2020
In this week’s video insight Stuart discusses Universal Store Holdings, a recent listing on the ASX. Full steam ahead for these two companies
Roger Montgomery
November 19, 2020
In this week’s video insight Roger discusses companies set to benefit from the news of a vaccine. Some of the companies that were beaten down during the pandemic – those we believe would inevitably recover once a vaccine was announced – have bounced, but they are yet to fully reflect a return to normal, or in some cases even a return to subnormal. One company to clearly benefit from higher levels of activity is Qantas, while another, Megaport recently reported high levels of connection activity following a COVID inspired slowdown in June and July. continue…
