Nick Scali’s online sales are still surging
Roger Montgomery
August 10, 2021
Another lockdown and this time 16 million people are tied to their computers at home with very little to do but work and shop online. There’s some merit in the idea that online shopping boomed during the first lock down because a) it was novel, b) the government was handing out money and c) the boss wasn’t looking over workers’ shoulders. This time around, while the boss remains absent the government isn’t being as generous. continue…

David Buckland
July 30, 2021
The Chinese government has just released a number of new regulations for its USD $100 billion after school tutoring industry (AST). The new regulations effectively eliminate most of the sector and materially impair the current capital deployed in these industries. continue…

Are we about to see a profit and dividend bonanza?
Andreas Lundberg
July 30, 2021
We are about to enter reporting season, when most of our listed companies report their results for the prior financial year. With stock market indices at all-time highs, it looks like the market is expecting many of our larger companies to come out with solid earnings and dividend announcements. Perhaps more interesting will be their forecasts for the year ahead. continue…

August 2021 Reporting Season Calendar
Roger Montgomery
July 29, 2021
August 2021 reporting reason is a bit of an unusual one – we’ve never really had so much information going in. We can generally expect a very buoyant reporting season and a bit of a dividend bonanza. We estimate earnings and dividends for CY21 will come in at least 15 per cent higher than the peak calendar year 2018. continue…

Roger Montgomery
July 29, 2021
Profit season unofficially kicked off this week with half-year results from diversified resources behemoth Rio Tinto yesterday. Perhaps the most insightful observation is the lack of downgrades during confession season. continue…

Have the Praemium Board hung up the ‘For Sale’ sign?
Dominic Rose
July 28, 2021
When the Board of Directors suddenly sacks the CEO of a company ‘effective immediately’ the share price typically tanks as investors stampede for the exit, shooting first, asking questions later. However, in the curious case of Praemium (ASX:PPS), a subscale wealth platform player with a chequered history of tactical execution, such news instead sent the share price soaring, up almost 50 per cent over two months. What could this perhaps counterintuitive market reaction be signalling? We think the company has been put in play for potential corporate activity. continue…
