Is the Bemis merger a good deal for Amcor shareholders?

Amcor has just announced a merger with Bemis, a US based flexibles packaging company. The new entity will be the global leader in plastics packaging with a market cap of around US$17 billion, annual revenue of US$13 billion and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of US$2.2 billion. One of the requirements for the Coalition’s Multi-Technology Mix National Broadband Network (the NBN) is the takeover of Telstra Corporation Ltd’s (ASX: TLS) copper network. The Government and Telstra are currently in contract negotiations, but the telco has already provided (in principal) agreement for a deal with a present value of approximately $11 billion. continue…

Vocus Communications (ASX: VOC) plans to acquire FX Networks Limited, New Zealand’s only ducted inter-city fibre optic network, for an enterprise value of NZ$116m (A$108m), or around 8 times EBITDA.
