New phone plans make it easier to cut the broadband cord
Scott Shuttleworth
September 18, 2017
How feasible is it to give up paying for broadband and rely solely on mobile internet? It’s a question many consumers who have moved onto the NBN must be pondering as they struggle with multiple issues, many hours on the phone and long wait times for repair requests to be processed.

Does Telstra represent good value after its fall?
Tim Kelley
August 25, 2017
Back in May, we noted that the Telstra (TLS) share price had fallen by more than 20 percent in the previous 12 months, and we asked whether good value might be on offer. At that time, we estimated the value of TLS shares to be in the region of $3.77 per share, and concluded that value was not compelling against a share price at the time of $4.42. Following its recent results announcement, TLS shares have fallen to a level close to our previous value estimate, and in a market where value generally is scarce, it makes sense to repeat the question: does TLS represent good value? continue…

Hold the phone, how are the telcos?
Roger Montgomery
August 3, 2017
The telecommunications sector endured a horrible year in 2016 with slumping share prices reflecting the uncertainty of the viability of various business models ahead of the completion of the NBN rollout. Downgrades, writedowns and capital raisings are just some of the events shareholders themselves have had to endure. continue…

Tim Kelley
August 2, 2017
Just as mobile telephony has led to a plunge in fixed line connections, it’s possible that mobile broadband could have a similar effect on fixed line broadband. If this happens, there will be major implications for broadband service providers, mobile operators and the NBN. continue…

David Buckland
June 8, 2017
Today’s blog will most likely be our final with respect to Vita Group Limited (ASX: VTG). In a portfolio of 20-30 companies, we will make mistakes – and VTG is, in absolute terms, one of our larger ones. Why we continue to put Vocus on hold
Scott Shuttleworth
June 1, 2017
Just 12 months ago, Vocus Group (ASX: VOC) soared above $9. Unfortunately, for investors who held on (happily not us – we sold out near the top) that was as good as it got. The telco’s share price has since plunged to around $3, which prompted us to re-evaluate the business. What we found failed to give us a buzz. continue…
