The Montgomery Funds recorded pleasing performance in the six months to 31 December 2014.
The Montgomery Fund was up by 7.44 per cent, outperforming its benchmark by 5.07 per cent. Over the period under review, the S&P/ASX 300 Index was up 0.17 per cent, while the S&P/ ASX 300 Accumulation Index, which assumes reinvestment of dividends, was up 2.37 per cent. continue…

We have witnessed a lot of volatility in the Australian share market over the the first five months of the 2014/2015 financial year.
Over that period the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Accumulation Index, which assumes reinvestment of dividends, has recorded a positive return of 0.3 per cent. Pleasingly, investors in both Montgomery Funds have recorded a return of 6.6 per cent, after expenses. continue…

Despite the turbulence in the seven-week period to mid-October, when the overall market declined nearly 10 per cent, both the Montgomery Funds have recorded solid results for the first four months of the 2014/15 financial year. This has been achieved with relatively large holdings in cash. Their absolute and relative returns (after expenses) are detailed below.

The recent 10 per cent pullback

The Australian All Ordinaries Index made a post-GFC high on 21 August 2014 at 5,672 points; 1200 points short of its all-time high (6,873) recorded in late-2007.
