Start Me Up

As you would already be aware we are passionate about Australian business and wherever possible we love promoting the award winning and innovative businesses of our friends and clients.

Joe Hockey recently realized how important small business is to Australia too and I can tell you that both Andrew Robb and Paul Fletcher are aware of the Montgomery ‘Two Birds’ idea. This idea offers tax holidays to genuine startups who establish themselves in thriving regional areas with universities and with the infrastructure to eventually ease the burden of urban consolidation pressures emerging in metro Sydney and Melbourne.

Of course ‘Woolworths Newcastle Pty Ltd’ would not be a genuine start up but navigating that small mine field should not prevent the broader concept from seeing the light of day. Outside of the US, the UK, Turkey and Singapore already have a thriving startup culture and the tax regime has been a massive contributor.

A man we know and like, who shares our passion for startups is Steve Baxter. You would know him as one of the ‘Sharks’ on Ten’s Shark Tank program and last week’s recent feature article about Steve in the Australian Financial Review is worth a read.
