Our friend in Tassie hamming it up…

Our friend in Tassie hamming it up…

We love an award, especially when someone we, at Montgomery, know and like wins one.

Whether it is a high rating from one of the most respected rating houses or a top three place in the fund manager performance stakes, we love to crow about the wins. But what we all need to crow about a bit more is when Australian business has a win.

Down in Geeveston, Tassie, Matthew Nicholas is a fifth generation butcher who took out the top prize at the annual Wrest Point Hobart Fine Food Awards gala dinner last week.

Matthew Nicholas, from JB Nicholas and Son Pty Ltd butchers in Church St, Geeveston, and a very generous friend of ours, won the Richard Langdon Trophy for the best exhibit in show from more than 1400 entrants with his tasty traditional cooked-on-the-bone ham.

There are a few of us here at the office who can attest to the amazing taste of Matthew’s hams. They are quite simply spectacular and it seems there are a few others who agree.

His organic Scottsdale pork produce also won the traditional leg ham category gold medal and the Champion Smallgoods at the awards, organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania, and this comes on top of gold medals at the Hobart and Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards for his short-cut bacon.

At Montgomery, you know how focused on business quality we are. We reckon if we stick to quality and value, our investors win in the long run. It makes sense then that we should like nothing more than seeing businesses succeed, especially when their owners are passionate about their product and the people to whom they sell their produce.

Congratulations Matthew from everyone at Montgomery.

And for those looking to finish off their smoked ham with a spot of dessert, check out another great friend of Montgomery, Nick Palumbo’s Gelato Messina in Sydney and coming soon to a city near you!
